Exhibition Map

My painting, “Estante Superior“, will be exhibited as part of the Chronicle exhibition. The exhibit theme this year was “Then & Now, a Chronicle of Influence,” in which winners of past exhibitions were invited to return along with someone on whom they had some amount of influence. The theme is further described as “…an exhibition exploring the nature of artists’ working relationships, collaboration and mentor-ship.”

After consultation with my friend and fellow painter Lorraine Bushek, a former student, we decided it would be fun to revisit one of our old projects. A few years ago I hosted a class at the Oregon Society of Artists, in which students were asked to make paintings based on some small directive or phrase (make “a red painting,” etc). In the spirit of those projects, we revisited the idea and agreed to each make “a painting of a recipe.”

3Y1B1354-599I’ll be in attendance on Friday [evening] and I’ll have a couple pieces in the festival’s ‘Open’ show as well. Come say hello if you’re in the area.

Nerdrum Judgement Revoked

Nerdrum Tax Evasion Case UpdateOdd Nerdrum will be retried sometime next year for those tax evasion charges. The previous judgements, which would have had Nerdrum serving 2 years and 10 months in prison, have been revoked pending retrial by the high court. We will have to wait and see.

No updates… (Sorry!)

I find blogging to be rather intimidating. Or, maybe not intimidating… but it’s something.

Henceforth, my updates here will be quarterly, at most.
Of course, that’s an exaggeration (hopefully), but that way nobody’s disappointed.

Here’s a look at something in progress, an 18×18″ trompe l’oeil of David’s eye. This photo from the end of day one after about five or six hours work.

I posted images on my website as well. Though a couple of them need updating– There’s a terrible glare on the Vermeer in that photo and the anatomy lesson is unevenly lit (bottom right is too dark). So come see them in person!

I’ll post detail shots soon.

Nerdrum Can’t Paint in Prison

This thing keeps getting worse and worse.

August 19th, 2011. Odd Nerdrum Not Allowed to Paint in Prison

Nerdrum Sentenced to Jail

Odd NerdrumApparently Odd Nerdrum had some paintings fall apart, for which he set aside monies in case any buyers needed to be refunded, and has now been sentenced to two years in prison for tax evasion. Reports say he will likely appeal. Nerdrum claimed it was the Norwegian state trying to destroy him and “push [him] towards suicide.”

Lucian Freud dies at age 88

Lucian Freud, a wonderful painter and grandson of Sigmund Freud, died yesterday at  age eighty-eight. Lucian was a very important figure for me during my college years; I learned a lot studying his work.

WordPress (This blog)

I’m going to try WordPress as a blog engine for a while. In the past I made my own from scratch. But I don’t enjoy web design, and I always dreaded adding to it; not the prospect of writing, just the notion that I’d have to do everything manually (and I fully admit that I may well have been doing it the hard and/or wrong way).

So, for the time being, my original blog remains: blog.thomaskenneth.com and my new blog (this blog) will be thomaskenneth.com/weblog.

Please bear with me as I learn my way around WordPress.
